Who is the new home phone for?
Is there broadband at the home?
You might not need a 4G home phone.
If the home already has broadband, the existing phone provider (BT, Sky, Virgin, TalkTalk, and so on) will usually handle the switchover for free. They'll send a small adapter that plugs the existing phone into the broadband router, and the existing number is kept.
It's worth a short call to your current provider before buying anything.
What matters most in the new phone?
Would you like to keep the existing landline number?
Let's check the 4G coverage in your area
The phone we recommend uses the mobile network instead of broadband. To give you a sense of coverage, pick the council area where the home is.

Preparing for the Switchover
A few simple steps to take before the UK's old landline network is switched off in January 2027, whether or not you end up choosing SilverLine.
Contact your current provider
Ask what alternatives they can offer you ahead of the switch-off. Most providers can move you to a digital service and usually let you keep your existing number.
Check your mobile signal at home
If the solution you're considering uses 4G, stand in the room where the phone will sit and check the signal on your mobile. One bar is usually enough for voice calls.
Think about power cuts
A traditional landline kept working when the power went off because it drew electricity from the phone line. Any digital replacement needs a backup battery to do the same.
