Who are you looking into this for?
Is there broadband at the home?
Worth knowing if you have broadband.
Your current phone provider (BT, Sky, Virgin, TalkTalk, and so on) will usually handle the switchover for free if you have broadband. They'll send a small adapter that plugs the existing phone into the router, and you keep the existing number. It's worth a short call to your current provider to see what they offer.
How often is the landline used?
What do you need from your landline?
Select all that apply. There's no wrong answer.

A 4G home phone matches what you need.
A basic mobile phone might be ideal.
A basic mobile usually fits better than a home phone for this situation.
Let's check the 4G coverage in your area

Preparing for the Switchover
A few simple steps to take before the UK's old landline network is switched off in January 2027, whether or not you end up choosing SilverLine.
Contact your current provider
Ask what alternatives they can offer you ahead of the switch-off. Most providers can move you to a digital service and usually let you keep your existing number.
Check 4G coverage by postcode
Before buying anything that uses 4G, check the signal at the exact address with Ofcom's free Map Your Mobile tool. It covers every UK network.
Think about power cuts
A traditional landline kept working when the power went off because it drew electricity from the phone line. Any digital replacement needs a backup battery to do the same.
